I’m thinking about selling a marketing-related domain name. How can I maximize the sale price?
I own a domain name (which I won't list here) that is related to buzz marketing. (It's a fairly common two-word phrase, a .com, and there are no hyphens or numbers or anything that detracts from it.)
I reserved it several years ago to use with my business, but only started developing a project for it in the last few months (though have nothing online yet). Recently, I was offered ,500 for it — completely out of the blue.
While I'm not yet sold on selling it (for any amount), I'm thinking pretty seriously about it. Can anyone suggest reliable appraisal services, domain brokers, auctions, or other resources to help me evaluate what I have and, should I choose to sell, maximize the return on my investment? Thank you!

Having just recently started looking at the business of domain name selling, this is something I was recently researching.
What I found is that Moniker.com seems to be the most professional of the domain name companies. They offer appraisal and auctioning services. Their appraisal service does cost money, but you'll get a reliable estimate of how much your domain is currently worth.
Keep in mind that the value of a domain name involves:
1) The traffic the domain gets
2) The value of the name to a buyer
If the domain is undeveloped, then you're basically looking at how important that particular domain name is to a buyer. This makes it harder to estimate the value. Moniker's auction services allow for a reserve price to be set, so you could be assured you wouldn't get less than that amount for the domain.
Good luck with the domain!
